STICKER BUFFET

Back-to-School Kokua for Children Displaced from their Neighborhood Schools due to the Maui Wildfires
Picture

Due to the recent Maui wildfires, hundreds of school children have been displaced from their neighborhood schools and are currently being enrolled elsewhere on Maui. Princess Nahienaena Elementary, Lahaina Intermediate, King Kekaulike High and Lahainaluna High remain closed until it is safe to return, while the Department of Education reported that Lahaina’s King Kamehameha III Elementary School is “damaged beyond repair” from the massive wildfire that decimated the town.

In order to offer a creative outlet for the children while helping them regain a sense of ownership, identity, and normalcy during this challenging time, we are currently organizing a Sticker Buffet -- which is a sticker giveaway to help students personalize newly donated hydro-flasks in the aftermath of this natural disaster.

We believe that this small project will have a significant impact on the emotional well-being and resilience of the children served. By providing them with a simple yet effective way to personalize their belongings, our local arts community can contribute to their sense of stability and support their journey toward recovery after this unprecedented disaster.
Benefits to school children include:
  • Expression: Allows kids to showcase their interests and personality, which can help them make new friends.
  • Ownership: Encourages responsibility and care for belongings during a time when this may be one of their only personalized items.
  • Identification: Reduces mix-ups and hygiene concerns.
  • Attachment: Fosters emotional connection to personalized items.
  • Motivation: Increases water consumption through appealing and imaginative bottles.
  • Convenience: Serves as a reminder to drink water regularly.
  • Social Interaction: Facilitates connections and conversations with peers.
  • Memories: Creates lasting keepsakes of newly developing friendships.
  • Organization: Helps children manage their items more effectively.

I WANT TO HELP!

There are currently THREE ways to get involved:

1. Donate stickers

Ideally 4" x 4" or smaller so that each student can fit a personalized collection of stickers on their hydro-flask. The most user-friendly hydro-flask stickers are waterproof, dishwasher safe, and resistant to scratches and fading. Email us for  the best mailing address.

2. Donate designs

Email us a .jpg file of your artwork/ sticker design and we'll utilize the funds we raise to print stickers for each campus sticker buffet. Note: We will not sell these at a later date; all designs are limited to this program only.

3. Donate funds

Our goal is to offer at least 3,500 stickers (10 per hydro-flask), but we would love to offer any surplus to classmates. Stickers run anywhere from 80 cents to $1.50 each to print.
