Maui Public Art Corps is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization founded in 2020 to connect people, place, and story through the development of exceptional public art. The organization grew out of the 2018 SMALL TOWN * BIG ART pilot with the County of Maui and Maui Historical Society, a foundational collaboration pairing artists with community members to create installations rooted in Mary Kawena Pukui’s ‘Ōlelo No‘eau: Hawaiian Proverbs and Poetical Sayings. Today Maui Public Art Corps works in ongoing partnership with the County through a listening-first, community-centered process, with each commission shaped by public dialogue and developed in direct response to place.
